About Us

Koonwarra Village School (KVS) is an independent primary school founded in 2012, offering enrolment from Foundation to Grade 6. 

KVS aims to provide a human-scale, relational and holistic school life that inspires a lifelong love of learning for students and staff alike.

Our school couples the Victorian Curriculum with our own curriculum priorities to provide a unique teaching and learning environment. Our philosophy and guiding principles inform how we go about our day-to-day school life.

Children have lots of opportunities to make decisions and have a say in shaping their day. We also encourage adventure – physical, social, and academic – and offer a range of excursions, camps, and extracurricular activities.

Our learning program is structured, flexible and adjusted to each student's individual needs, as we collaborate with students to develop their skills and become effective lifelong learners.

school size

KVS has a maximum enrolment of around 65 students. This is an intentional limit to ensure our community remains ‘human-scale’. Everyone is well-known to one another, and this supports relationships to remain authentic. It also enables our programs to be dynamic and flexible, adapting to our students' needs and learning opportunities.

School Calendar

KVS operates on a slightly different timetable from other schools. We have found that breaking our year into six-week cycles (five weeks of school, followed by a one-week break) allows students and mentors to be refreshed and fully engaged for the whole cycle without running out of steam as the term progresses. School commences at the same time as other schools at the start of the year and finishes at the same time at the end of the year. The total number of days that KVS students will be at school is roughly the same as at other independent schools.
